Prosecutors said that a suburban Chicago man charged with killing three teenage girls could be a serial killer.

Sonny Pierce, 27, faces three counts of first-degree murder - including one in which he's suspected of videotaping himself having sex with the body of a dead teen.

In the other cases, Pierce is charged with killing two women he met on phone sex chat lines.

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez said Pierce could have more victims.

His horrific crimes, including the rape of a 15-year-old who survived, pointed to a "pattern" of behavior that could have stretched for a year before his arrest, Alvarez said Wednesday.

"We would like to hear from anyone out there who has had previous contact with Pierce or any other young woman who may have been potential victims, or any families who are missing a loved one," Alvarez said at a news conference.

"It is our obligation to try to identify any other women who may have been victimized," she added.

Authorities said Pierce killed two women, Kiara Windom and Kimika Coleman, both 18, about three weeks apart in the summer of 2009.

In both case, he allegedly lured the women to his suburban apartment after kinky phone conversations and then strangled them.

Their bodies were found in separate alleys in August 2009. He admitted to having sex with Coleman but said he let her go.

Phone records showed the women had talked with Pierce, and his DNA was found on their bodies, according to authorities.

Authorities charge that Pierce also killed his 17-year-old neighbor, Mariah Edwards.

Cops have not found Edwards' body, but said they recovered a video on his laptop showing him having sex with her lifeless corpse.

Pierce confessed to raping Edwards in front of several men, then beat her to death and dumped her body, but refused to say where, cops said.

Pierce was not charged with any of the murders until he was arrested for raping a 15-year-old girl in his neighborhood.

That girl, who survived, told police that Pierce lured her to his apartment last August and choked and raped her.

Windom's mother, Hallena Johnson, told the Chicago Tribune that she hopes Pierce gets the death penalty.

"He doesn't deserve to be walking around anywhere. He doesn't belong anywhere but in hell," she said.

Pierce's mother, who lived next door to him in Blue Island, Ill., said there was no way her son killed one person, let alone several.

"He's the child of my womb. I think I would know if my child was a murderer," she told the Tribune.
