A fragrance ad by YSL has been deemed too spicy for British viewers.
The British Advertising Standards Agency has said that a television ad for YSL Belle d'Opium, starring French actress Melanie Thierry, was "irresponsible and offensive," reports Women's Wear Daily.
The one-minute ad features Thierry moving sensually in a way that is meant to evoke the Dance of Salome. At one point, she points to her inner arm. Her dancing becomes more and more frenetic until she's lying on her back on the floor.
"I am your addiction," the narrator says at the end of the ad.
The ASA has charged that the dancing is 'simulated drug use.'
According to YSL, viewers had not interpreted the ad that way at all when they were testing it with audiences, reports the BBC.
