A Florida nurse has recalled the horrifying moment a teenage girl's stomachache was revealed to be a tapeworm infestation — leading to her weight-obsessed mom's confession of feeding her their eggs.
E.R. nurse Maricar Cabral-Osorio recounted the stomach-turning discovery for Discovery Fit & Health after a girl with a bulging stomach came in with her mother for help.
She was in pain and Cabral-Osorio and her fellow coworkers first thought she could be pregnant, until an ultrasound showed no baby.
It was instead something seen elsewhere in her body which raised eyebrows.
"Something was in her intestines," said Cabral-Osorio for an upcoming episode of "Untold Stories of the E.R." that is set to air this Friday.
Unfortunately for the girl, it wasn't the tests that revealed the cause for her growing discomfort, but a trip to the bathroom.
Shortly after the teen excused herself they heard screaming.
"It was a toilet bowl full of tapeworms. Blegh!" the nurse recalled of the wriggling sight inside the bathroom.
"It was so gross and she had pooped all these tapeworms. There were a couple that were very long and wiggling around trying to get out of the toilet bowl," she said. "We were wondering, how did she get those tape worms? And then we saw the mother turn white."
The mother, who had until now complained about the amount of time nurses were taking to care for her daughter, then became emotional.
"The mom was apologizing to the girl. 'I just did it to make you a little skinner. You needed some help before we went on to the pageant,'" recalled Cabral-Osorio.
In a bid to help her daughter lose weight the mother admitted that she had fed her tapeworm eggs, which had consequently hatched inside of her.
