WTF! MAN DIES FROM PLANKING ON HIS BALCONY!

A young man plunged to his death from an apartment balcony in Australia while "planking," a sometimes-dangerous new craze in which people lie face down in strange places while someone takes their picture.
Authorities in Brisbane said Acton Beale, 20, and a pal had been planking in different spots on their way home from partying on Sunday night when Beale decided to lie across a balcony rail on the seventh floor of a building in the suburb of Kangaroo Point.

Beale lost his footing and was killed instantly when he hit the ground below, cops said.

Queensland Deputy Police Commissioner Ross Barnett said the stunt has become increasing popular in Australia, and cops were worried someone would eventually get killed.

"It is what we've been fearing," Barnett said.

Police across the country have warned potential daredevils about the practice, as dozens of tribute pages and videos have cropped up on Facebook and YouTube.

One Facebook page, Planking Australia, has more than 83,000 supporters and contains hundreds of photos of plankers in almost every imaginable locale – from living rooms and offices to atop parking garages, street signs and rock formations.




In one photo, a man lies on the bottom shelf of a convenience store refrigerator.

Though in most cases the odd craze can be considered a harmless goof, Aussie cops have promised to arrest or fine plankers who take the balancing act too far.

"Accepting a risk of injury for yourself is one thing, but the potential is there for others to be injured as a result of your behaviour," Barnett said.

Meanwhile, the planking groups have deemed May 25 "annual planking day."
