Is Willow Smith's new music video too grown up for a 12-year-old?
Smith's video for "Summer Fling," a collaboration with DJ MVSIC Fabrega under the name "Melodic Chaotic," has raised some eyebrows due to what some consider suggestive lyrics.
"Don't really care what we do tonight," Smith, the daughter of actor Will Smith, sings on the track. "Good night kisses if the mood is right, laying by the beach with you wishing this will never end. "
Smith then dons a British accent, rapping, "Thanks for the summer fling. It was nice."
The video shows Smith holding hands and romping around with an actor who appears much older than her. There's nothing too racy afoot — the couple hold hands, and at one point, the man picks Willow up-but commenters were alarmed at the use of the word "fling," inferring a relationship that's sexual in nature.
"Out at midnight? Honey, that's way past your bed time," one YouTube user commented. Another labeled Smith's singing about a fling "truly disturbing" for someone her age.
But other users stuck up for Smith.
"Does it really matter? It's a nice song that shouldn't be taken 100% literally," wrote user Jamieson Deamer.
