Will Smith, 48, and DJ Jazzy Jeff, 52, collaborated on a track called “Get Lit” — almost 20 years after the pair collaborated during the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” era.
The duo’s last jam was “Lovely Daze” back in 1998.
But why get back together after all this time? Well, they are getting old, after all.
“I looked at Jeff and he was getting old, man, and I was like, ‘I can’t do this to this boy,’” Smith told Entertainment Tonight.
“It was time. LL (Cool J) hit me (up and) was like, ‘Dude, I'm telling you, it’s time. You have no idea the love that’s out there.’ I was listening to L like, ‘All right, I need to do it.’ Now I got the bug.”
“Get Lit” first hit the masses on Sunday when Jazzy and Smith performed it at Livewire Festival 2017 at Blackpool’s Tower Headland Arena in England.
Smith said the track was a response to the “chaos and confusion” in the world.
“I wanted to make a song that allowed people to let their light shine," Smith told the crowd.
"We all have an inner light and sometimes (in) this world, people can say stuff to you and tell you you can’t do and you know you can — but when they tell you that it kinda knocks you down a bit, right, so I wanted to make a record that reminded each and every one of y’all to let your light shine.”
