Tyrese Gibson now wants primary custody of his daughter.
The “Fast and Furious” franchise star filed court documents requesting a judge ax the 50/50 custody plan currently in place with ex-wife Norma Gibson and grant him primary physical custody so Shayla can move to Atlanta and live with him, The Blast reported. Gibson feels it’s in Shayla’s “best interest” to live in Atlanta, where she won’t be pursued by paparazzi.
He also noted in the documents that he lives “in a 23,000 square foot home in an affluent and safe neighborhood in Atlanta.” Shayla would have her own bedroom and bathroom, as well as extra bunk beds for friends to sleep over. He would also pay for Shayla to fly back and forth to Los Angeles to visit her mother.
Tyrese, who suffered a public meltdown in the fall, and Norma have been engaged in a bitter custody battle for months. Norma requested—and was ultimately denied—a restraining order against Tyrese, who she claimed allegedly beat their daughter. A judge ruled there wasn’t an ongoing pattern of harassment by Tyrese against Norma or their daughter.
Amid Tyrese and Norma’s fight over Shayla, the actor-musician announced he and his wife, Samantha, are expecting a child together, a baby girl.
“Both of our love and energy and magic and family are bonded forever because we’re going to have this child,” the “Fast and Furious” star told People. “It’s unbelievable.”
