Prolific filmmaker Tyler Perry is accused of lifting lyrics from a gospel song for his hit film, "Madea Goes to Jail," according to a federal lawsuit.
Tyler allegedly pirated an entire verse from "When I Think of the Goodness of Jesus," written in 1950 by singer Bertha James, according to the suit obtained by the Web site TMZ.
No credit or payment was made for the lyrics used in a monologue by Madea during a court proceeding in the film, the suit charges.
James' estate is seeking unspecified damages for copyright infringement from Perry and Lionsgate Entertainment which distributes his films.
Although routinely panned by critics, Perry's films, including "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" and "Madea's Family Reunion," have raked in millions at the box office.
Last year, he became the first black film producer to own a major television and film studio.
Perry could not be reached for comment.
