Twista Pleads Not Guilty To Marijuana Possession

Twista, along with three other men, pleaded not guilty to a Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana yesterday (April 11) according to the Chicago Tribune. TMZ reports that Twista’s legal representation is also looking into the possibility that profiling led to the initial arrest.

The Chicago rapper was arrested on March 24 while he was on his way to a performance at the Big Shots club in Valparaiso, IN. Porter County Sheriff David Reynolds said Cpl. Paul Czupryn pulled over Twista’s vehicle because the driver was following too close to a truck. When cops approached the car, they smelled the odor of marijuana. Twista and the other passengers were asked to exit the vehicle so a search could be done. Officers discovered a fake can with marijuana in it then arrested all four men traveling in the vehicle. Twista posted $500 bail the next day (March 25).

Twista, Johnnie Euall, Michael Moore and Darrin Woody all face up to 180 days in jail and up to $1000 in fines. Twista and the other three men’s attorney Lakeisha Murdaugh thinks her clients’ arrest was a potential case of profiling.

Murdaugh feels that the vehicle, a Rolls Royce Phantom, tipped police off that a celebrity was inside. The attorney told TMZ that she wants to review all police transmissions from that night to see what caught cops’ attention.

Murdaugh filed a motion at Monday’s hearing to preserve evidence This motion involved saving the tapes of Porter County Sheriff’s police involved in the arrest. Twista’s trial will begin on Aug. 18.
