Tory Lanez Responds To Drake's Summer Sixteen Diss

Drake may have taken aim at Tory Lanez and the New Toronto in his new track “Summer Sixteen,” but it doesn’t appear that Lanez has any interest in igniting a feud with Drake in the near future.

Last month, Drake debuted the first official single off of his upcoming Views From The 6 album, titled “Summer Sixteen,” while simultaneously taking shots at Meek Mill, President Obama, Jay Z and Lanez in the chart-topping track.

In the second verse of his song, Drake seemingly disses Tory Lanez while referencing the rapper’s most recent mixtape release, The New Toronto, when he raps, “All you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little.”

While Drake never confirmed speculation that he’s feuding with Tory Lanez, the fellow Toronto-native rapper did appear to throw shade at Drake back in August during an interview with Sway In The Morning in which he dissed Drake for appearing to read lyrics off of his BlackBerry while performing his own freestyle rap.

“I know these n***** about to act scary. T.O. n****, only spitting without the Blackberry,” Lanez rapped, further fueling speculation of an escalating beef between Lanez and Drake, HypeTrak reports.

In addition, Lanez also blasted Drake’s tendency to refer to their hometown of Toronto as “The 6,” taking to Twitter back in October to explain, “This whole calling Toronto the ‘6’ thing…It’s not cool bro.”

Despite Lanez’s comments, fans were quick to shoot back with screenshots of Lanez actually using “The 6” to describe Toronto in his previous Twitter posts, Rap Dose reports.

Now, it appears that Lanez is quick to shut down rumors of an escalating feud with Drake, telling Revolt TV that he’ll “never” diss Drake and that he’s actually a huge fan of the “Hotline Bling” rapper.

“Drake could dis me 20,000 times,” Lanez explains of Drake’s “Summer Sixteen” track, “And I’ll never diss him. I’m a fan.”

Some fans are also arguing that given Lanez’s history of working with Meek Mill, who has been less-than-subtle in his approach to dissing Drake since igniting a feud with the rapper in 2015, Drake may have been dissing Tory’s association with the rapper given the nature of his ongoing beef with Meek.

In August, Tory Lanez sparked rumors that he previously served as a ghostwriter for Meek Mill during an interview with Hot New Hip Hop, telling the site that he “wrote the August Alsina record on the Meek Mill album that’s about to come out,” referring to Meek’s most recent album release, Dreams Worth More Than Money. Lanez also collaborated with Meek Mill on the Philly rapper’s track, “Lord Knows,” which was referenced in Meek Mill’s Twitter rant regarding his ghostwriting allegations against Drake last year.

Meek Mill also seemingly defended Tory Lanez against Drake’s jab in “Summer Sixteen” when he refuted the Toronto rapper’s claims in his own track, “War Pain.”
