Rihanna dropped the full track for "Sledgehammer," her contribution to the "Star Trek Beyond" soundtrack on Monday morning (June 27) and the wait was definitely worth it.
After teasing on Sunday that the song clip was coming with an Instagram post in which she sported some alien-looking face paint, Rih unleashed the emotional ballad that she has seemingly been working on since tweeting "you're just another brick and I'm a sledgehammer" back in 2014. Beyond, the third episode in the reboot of the space epic franchise, is due in theaters on July 22.
The song's intense chorus charts the heartbreak Rihanna paints in the first verse, which has lyrics about hitting a wall, getting drowned in swimming pool of tears and bracing for the pain. "I hit a wall, I thought that I would hurt myself/ Oh I was sure your words would leave me unconscious," she sings on the track co-written by Sia. "And on the floor I'd be lying cold, lifeless/ But I hit a wall, I hit 'em all, watch the fall."
The track also appears in a new trailer that debuted on Monday morning.
