Mbuyiselo Manona was first stabbed by his partner's former lover, who'd come to visit the couple at their home in Cape Town, South Africa. Then his heart was ripped out and eaten with silverware, according to authorities.
"On the scene they found a suspect, a Zimbabwean national, busy eating the heart of a human with a knife and fork," said police spokesman Frederick van Wyk, Agence France-Presse reported Thursday.
The suspect and the woman were not identified.
Police said the woman told them an old boyfriend had stopped by the house she shared with Manona, 62. The old flame had chatted with the couple a while, and then gave the woman some money to go buy drinks.
After she left for the store, Manona was attack and stabbed. Neighbors heard the commotion, called police, and then tried to stop the debauchery by yelling at the attacker.
"The whole situation was crazy. We were shouting at him to stop, but he did not listen," one neighbor said, according to AFP. They saw the man rip out Manona's heart, then use a knife and fork to eat it.
"Even when the police got here … the guys were scared to go in. They had to call for back-up,'' the neighbor added. "You can't really blame them — how do you go into a room with someone dripping another person's blood out of his mouth?"
