Even Snoop Dogg doesn't have Tidal — but that didn't stop him from sinking his teeth into JAY-Z's new album.
The rapper admits he pirated a bootlegged copy of "4:44" after the critically acclaimed record released exclusively on Tidal — a streaming service that Snoop, like many other JAY-Z fans, does not have a subscription to.
"I want to shoot a shout out to JAY-Z. Just dropped another motherf--king hot album, '4:44,'" Snoop began in a profanity-laced Instagram video. "But you know what? I don't got Tidal, so (a friend) had to bootleg it to me. I'm on iTunes and s--t because I don't understand that — y'all gotta explain that to me."
"I went to iTunes looking for his album and I couldn't find it," the "Young, Wild & Free" rapper, 45, continued. "But my homie sent it to me, you understand me?"
JAY-Z's album dropped on June 30 and remains available only to Tidal subscribers. JAY-Z, who owns Tidal, has had several major albums premiere exclusively on the streaming service in recent years, including his wife Beyoncé's "Lemonade" and Kanye West's "The Life of Pablo," both in 2016.
Tidal offers a free 30-day trial, but some fans had already used theirs before JAY-Z's first album in four years came out last Friday. Naturally, those unwilling to pay for the website's $9.99 per month subscription fee have been left unable to listen to "4:44" until it becomes available elsewhere.
Despite the Tidal confusion, Snoop had nothing but good things to say about the album itself.
Tidal is currently at the center of controversy after West, 40, decided to break away from the streaming service due to a financial dispute, according to TMZ. Tidal has threatened to sue West if he signs on with another streaming service, but he does not plan on releasing albums exclusively moving forward in an effort to make sure all of his fans can hear his music, the gossip site reported.
JAY-Z appears to reference a fallout with West on his new song "Kill Jay Z," which is included on "4:44."
"But this 'f--keverybody' attitude ain't natural/But you ain't the same, this ain't KumbaYe/But you got hurt because you think KumbaYe/You gave him 20 million without thinkin'/He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f--k was he thinkin'?/'F--k wrong with everybody?' is what you sayin'/But if everybody's crazy, you're the one that's insane," JAY-Z raps in the song.
West and JAY-Z have frequently recorded together, including an entire album called "Watch The Throne" in 2011.
