Snapchat Suggests Miss Universe Prompter Gave Steve Harvey The Wrong Winner

Steve Harvey owned up to his Miss Universe mistake on stage - but he also was very quick to blame someone else for the pageant gaffe.

The “Family Feud” host has apologized repeatedly for crowning — and decrowning — the wrong beauty queen during Sunday night’s live telecast.

But in a behind-the-scenes Snapchat post - which has since been deleted — Harvey insisted that the TelePrompTer fed him the wrong name.

“The prompter said ‘Miss Universe — Colombia,’” Harvey tells a producer while waving his hands emphatically on the seven-second video.

Of course, publicly, Harvey accepted the blame — and the damning snippet was quickly deleted. But many followers — including fellow contestants — saved it and shared it on social media.

“Watch the Miss Universe snap story ... Harvey says ‘The TelePrompTer said Miss Universe- Colombia’... Someone in production is fired...” tweeted Miss Alabama.

Some Harvey fans on social media say the Snapchat exonerates the maligned emcee.

“See snapchat Miss Universe: Written wrong on teleprompter Quite courageous for Steve Harvey to take responsibility,” tweeted Susie under the handle @Groceryhound.

Others are complaining that the deletion smacks of a conspiracy.

“The live snapchat story of Steve Harvey saying it was the TelePrompTer that said the wrong thing is taken down. Censorship much?” tweeted @AriMarie101.

Officials at Fox declined to comment about whether Harvey or the TelePrompTer was to blame.

In a statement, the Miss Universe pageant did not address who was to blame for the “human error” that played out during “the excitement of live TV.”

Harvey continued apologizing on Monday for announcing Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner, and then admitting on live TV moments later that Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was actually supposed to take the Miss Universe crown and sash.

After an error-filled tweet where he initially misspelled both countries’ names, Harvey reposted, “I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible.”

He also posted on Facebook: “I made a terrible mistake. ... I know how much pride many countries, fans and most importantly, the contestants take in preparing for this night. I hope that you can forgive me. All contestants were amazing but I want to specifically apologize to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines again and wholeheartedly. You both represented well for your countries, families and yourselves.”

But Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek, who didn’t place in the top three, couldn’t resist stirring the pageant pot hours after the disastrous broadcast, telling pageant blog Missosology that Gutierrez “was robbed as the real winner.

“I was very happy for Miss Colombia because she really deserved it,” she said. “I’m not really happy with the result and so are the other girls, I’m sorry to say it. Because none of us voted for Miss Philippines.”
