Now that’s quite the haul for a heist flick.
Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter and rapper Awkwafina will make up the crammed marquee for “Ocean’s Eight,” the female-driven spinoff of the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise, Deadline.com is reporting.
They join a caper flick that already reportedly includes Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock. Elizabeth Banks has previously been rumored to be circling a part.
The cast now has enough starpower wattage to rival the last three films, which were headlined by George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.
There is a very real possibility that some of those actors would make a cameo in “Ocean’s Eight,” according to the report.
Cameras on the Gary Ross-directed spin-off are set to start rolling in October in New York City.
Steven Soderbergh, who directed the “Ocean’s Eleven” trilogy is back as a producer.
The addition of Hathaway, who just wrapped the sci-fi thriller “Colossal,” brings the production a third Oscar winner to go along with Bullock and Blanchett.
Awkwafina, a Korean-American rapper whose real name is Nora Lum, is the least known of the cast. She did, however, make a memorable supporting turn in this year’s “Neighbors 2.”
The hope is "Ocean's Eight" will fare better than the gender-swapped "Ghostbusters," which has been a disappointment at the box office.
