Rapper Kurtis Blow Says Not All Police Are Racist

A former ’80s rapper credited four officers for saving his life on Friday.

Kurtis Walker — who went by the moniker Kurtis Blow during his rap career in the ’80s — says four LAPD cops gave him CPR and brought him back to life at a bus stop in Canoga Park on Friday.

"I died and those officers saved my life," Walker, 57, said in a press release posted by LAPD. "The police saved my life, a black man. In this day and age, people need to hear that."

Officers Peter Parra and Felix Rodriguez jumped into action near the Topanga Mall when responding to a call of an altercation between Walker and a younger man at a bus stop.

As more officers began to respond, Walker collapsed.

"We didn't think about it; we just acted. I swept his airway for obstructions, and Officer Hill started chest compressions," fellow officer Chris Vege said in a statement.

Parra added that it seemed like the former rapper was about to enter cardiac arrest as he continued to gasp for air.

"They got there so fast. If they got there any later, I would have died," Walker said.

The Harlem-born musician was later rushed to the hospital and told authorities he wanted to meet the officers.

The cops drove to the hospital later that evening and were met with a wave celebration for saving the man's life.

The four officers will be awarded a life-saving award for helping Walker.
