Prince Explains Why He No Longer Curses In His Songs

Prince's name is often synonymous with naughty lyrics.

But in recently released songs, the 55-year-old musical icon has strayed away from profanity and explained exactly why on the June cover story for Essence, "Prince After Dark."

"Did you ever hear Muhammad Ali curse?" the Purple One said, according to People. "Would you curse in front of your kids? To your mother?"

His squeaky clean image is a far cry from the Prince of the past who performed songs like "Erotic City" and "P---y Control."

"Marsha (Ambrosius), Lianne (La Havas), Janelle (Monae)," he continued. "They're all my sisters. We shouldn't curse at them. We need to treat all of them, and all people, like royalty."

Prince will take the stage at the Essence Festival's 20th anniversary at New Orleans' Superdome on the Fourth of July.

"A real musician is always in creative mode," he said.

At 55 I would stop cursing too!
