Obama Responds To Trump’s Wiretapping Claim

A spokesman for former President Barack Obama today denied that Obama ordered wiretaps at Trump Tower.

“A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice,” an Obama spokesman said.

“As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen,” the statement said.

The statement did not say whether President Trump or his associates were surveilled as part of any Justice Department probe.

In an early morning tweetstorm Saturday, President Trump lashed out at Obama, claiming he ordered a wire tap on Trump Tower just before the election.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted at 6:35 a.m. in a series of angry-sounding messages.

Trump’s claim comes amid growing controversy over his administration’s possible Russian ties.
