A former model convicted of killing her husband and cooking and eating his body parts wants to get out of prison early.
Omaima Aree Nelson is set to appear before a parole board in California next week in a longshot bid for an early release from her 27 years-to-life sentence, KTLA-TV reported.
It's her second time before the parole board.
Nelson was in her 20s when she moved to the U.S. in 1986 after working as a model and nanny in Egypt. She married 56-year-old William Nelson in October 1991, and the marriage lasted a month before she murdered him over Thanksgiving weekend.
"It was the most gruesome case I saw," Former Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Bob Phillips told the Los Angeles Times. "She did not seem like a person that was coherent."
During her trial, she claimed that she had been a victim of domestic violence and her husband had pushed her over the edge when he raped her the night before, the Times reported.
After murdering him, Nelson cooked her husband's head on the stove, skinned his torso and fried his hands in oil, the Daily Pilot reported.
At one point, she admitted to dipping his body in barbecue sauce - which she now denies remembering.
"Of course, she says that [she doesn't remember] because the parole board doesn't want to let a cannibal out," Senior Deputy District Attorney Randy Pawloski told the Pilot newspaper.
Cops say she put the rest of his body parts in several garbage bags and asked some ex-boyfriends to help her get rid of them.
