Actor and comedian Mike Epps came under fire over the weekend for bringing a live kangaroo on stage during his show.
The actor, who appeared in “The Hangover” and “Next Friday,” brought the kangaroo on stage during his show in Detroit on Friday and appeared to egg the animal on, pulling it by its leash, TMZ reported.
People immediately criticized Epps for the move accusing him of animal cruelty.
Epps defended himself in a now-deleted Instagram post, captured by The Shade Room, which pictured him feeding the kangaroo. It was captioned, “Yeh what’s the problem now, look how nice I am 2 him! Theses guys are license zoo keepers!”
But TMZ reports that a representative for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture is looking into the event as the Animal Welfare Act requires that handlers be “in control of the animal at all times."
The animal’s handler is Javon Stacks who claims to have the proper licenses and owns a travelling exotic zoo that visits inner-city kids who are unable to make it to zoos.
