MARY J BLIGE TO BE HONORED BY McDONALDS 365BLACK AWARDS!

Mary J. Blige aka the "Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul," will be one of five prominent African-Americans who will be honored by McDonald's during this year's 365Black Awards, which takes place this weekend at the start of the Essence Music Festival Weekend.

Mary J. Blige, along with legendary actress Ruby Dee, Radio One founder Cathy Hughes, NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Jealous and Civil Rights activist/McDonald's owner/operator Henry “Hank” Thomas, will be honored during the awards ceremony, which takes place July 1st, in New Orleans.

Mary J. Blige is being recognized for her contributions to society through her organization, the Foundation For the Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN), which was founded with Hip-Hop mogul Steve Stoute, to help at-risk women.

"Through her organization FFAWN, the Foundation for Advancement of Women Now, Mary J. Blige continues to invest in the future of young women and gives them the confidence they need to succeed," said Neil Golden, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald's USA.

McDonald's launched the 365Black Awards in 2003, as part of the fast food giant's outreach to the African-American community.

This year's 365BlackAwards will be hosted by actress Angela Bassett, and radio veteran Tom Joyner.

Mary J. Blige is currently preparing to release her new album My Life Too…The Journey Continues, which is due in stores September 20th, 2011.
