Mariah Carey’s self-described “profoundly damaged” older sister has filed a lawsuit against the pop star, claiming she was publicly humiliated when Carey revealed alleged family secrets in a memoir last year.
Last September, the “Always Be My Baby” singer published the book called “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” alleging that older sister Alison Carey drugged her when she was a kid, that her brother was physically abusive, and that one of her mom’s boyfriends threatened to kill Carey and her mom for leaving him.
In the chapter titled “Dandelion Tea,” Mariah alleged that when she was 12 years old, then-20-year-old Alison drugged her with Valium and let Carey go on a disturbing car ride with one of the elder sibling’s boyfriends, who was carrying a gun. Mariah also says Alison burned her by throwing boiling tea on her, according to her Manhattan Supreme Court summons filed Monday.
Alison — who does not have a lawyer in the case and is representing herself — claims her crooner sister never gave her an opportunity to respond to the claims in the book, nor did she present “evidence to substantiate” the allegations, which Alison “disputes,” the court papers say.
The troubled elder sibling also says Mariah knew she was “profoundly and permanently damaged” — repeating allegations memorialized in a wild lawsuit against their mother claiming the matriarch let strangers abuse Alison when she was 10 and made her watch satanic ritual sacrifices.
The 59-year-old sister — who has previously been busted for prostitution — says she has post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression because of her past. She also claims she has health issues including spine and digestive disorders and a traumatic brain injury, short-term memory problems and vision problems after being attacked in 2015 in an “unsolved home invasion,” the court documents say.
Despite knowing about the problems that Alison faces, Mariah “used her status as a public figure to attack her penniless sister, generating sensational headlines describing lurid claims to promote sales of her book,” the suit alleges.
Alison says she is struggling again with alcohol abuse after having been clean for “a long time,” the court papers claim.
Alison says she sent an offer to settle her claims to Carey’s lawyers on Jan. 8 but she never heard back, the court documents allege.
So now Alison is demanding $1.25 million for claims of “intentional infliction of immense emotional distress caused by defendant’s heartless, vicious, vindictive, despicable and totally unnecessary public humiliation of defendant’s’ already profoundly damaged older sister,” the suit charges.
