The wacko wanna-be music exec accused of harassing Ashanti will be able to defend himself at his upcoming trial, a judge ruled Thursday.
Devar Hurd will get to play “quarterback,” the judge ruled — allowing Hurd the chance to possibly confront the sexy singer at trial.
“You’ll be the quarterback. He’s the running-back. That’s it,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon said after a long back-and-forth in which the weirdo and the jurist started referring to the attorney role as “quarterback.”
“It’s the Super Bowl,” the grinning defendant said after getting his way.
Hurd’s actual attorney, Glenn Hardy, will take a backseat and become his “legal advisor.”
Solomon tried to convince Hurd to stick with Hardy, an experienced lawyer, when it came time to run the show.
Hurd managed to prove he was competent enough to exercise his right to self-representation at his upcoming trial for felony stalking and related counts.
Hurd’s first legal cameo will be at pre-trial hearings in his case, which are set for Wednesday. Hardy didn’t represent him “the way I want, pointing things out that I want him to point out,” Hurd griped Thursday.
In spilling the alleged details of his life to Solomon, Hurd talked up his credentials.
“Currently I’m a songwriter. I do stage and entertainment. I do shows all over the place,” Hurd said.
He said he became an audio tech after getting out of jail in 2010 for harassing the star through raunchy text messages and unwanted calls by sending them to her mom.
“I’ve done Rockefeller Center, I’ve done BAM ... that’s the Brooklyn Academy of Music. I worked at the Barclays Center, numerous shows and events... That’s what I do. I’m an audio tech,” he said.
He was arrested last year in the most recent case for allegedly tweeting at Ashanti, in violation of orders of protection.
