Aggravated American air passengers, don't get any ideas.

Furious travelers -- who had been stranded for days in one of Russia's largest airports due to devastating ice storms -- revolted and attacked airline officials on Tuesday, state-run media reported.

A source told RIA Novasti that officials of Aeroflot, the country's largest air company, were talking with passengers whose travel plans had been disrupted when the violent outbreak occurred in Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport.

"Several officials who were negotiating with passengers were beaten," the source told the news agency, adding that some of those who were attacked were women.

The source said airline employees are afraid to talk to passengers because security is lax and tensions are running high. Airport officials denied the attack and said the situation was improving.

Just as a crippling snowstorm has plagued holiday travel in the U.S., freezing weather and power outages have resulted in more than 200 delayed flights delayed at Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo airports over the last three days. Some passengers reportedly protested in security check areas.

"It's absolute mayhem," Dmitry Menyaev, who has been waiting for two days to fly out from Domodedovo to Novosibirsk in Siberia, told AFP. "There are problems with water supply, all restaurants are full and they jack up the prices." Menyaev, who wanted to spend the holidays with family, added, "All we get to eat is whatever is left from the planes and there isn't much left from that."

Stranded bloggers wrote that bottles of water were being sold for $16 in the airport, and taxi drivers were charging up to $300 for a 40-minute drive to the capital.

The administrator at Sheremetyevo Airport's business lounge, where, for $50, stranded travelers can relax and drink unlimited booze, said the club was overcrowded. "Everybody got trashed, but we did not stop selling alcohol. Otherwise they would just tear us to pieces," the administrator told RIA Novosti.
