Lil Durk's federal murder-for-hire trial will begin on April 21. The rapper, real name Durk Banks, appeared in court last week where a judge granted the defendants' request to delay the trial by, at least, three months. The defendants suggested moving the start date from Jan. 20 to May 4, citing the need for additional time to review discovery in trial preparation. "We would have been ready to try the case (in two weeks), but the court appropriately decided that with everybody together, we still aren’t there yet," Drew Findling, one of Durk's lawyers, says "It's a complex case. These are the stepping stones towards a trial." Durk was arrested in Oct. 2024 on a murder-for-hire allegation after five people, allegedly tied to the rapper's Only the Family, were accused of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in connection with the 2022 shooting of Quando Rondo. The alleged hit is believed to be in retaliation for the murder of King Von, which was carried out by Timothy "Lul Timm" Leeks, an affiliate of Rondo. Rondo was not injured in the shooting, his 24-year-old cousin Saviay'a Robinson was killed. Durk has remained behind bars since his arrest, and according to his attorneys, the Chicago native has spent the past four months in solitary confinement after he was allegedly found "in possession of an unauthorized Apple Watch." His lawyer Christy O' Connor alleges the rapper has not been given access to commissary, and is only allowed one phone call each month, without in-person visits. His attorneys filed a motion last week requesting a status hearing, claiming Durk has been held "without process," a violation of federal regulations and possibly, the Eighth Amendment.
