Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson has etched her name into the WNBA record books, becoming the first player in league history to win four Most Valuable Player awards. Wilson, 29, was honored with the 2025 MVP trophy after another dominant season one that tested her team’s resilience and her own mental focus. Wilson received the news from WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, joined by Wilson’s boyfriend, Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo, surprising her during a Las Vegas Aces practice, making the moment even more personal and celebratory. Wilson earned 51 first-place votes and 657 total points in the final tally, outpacing Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier (534 points, 18 first-place votes). Phoenix’s Alyssa Thomas (391 points), Atlanta’s Allisha Gray (180), and Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell (93) completed the top five vote-gettersWith the win, Wilson surpasses WNBA legends Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson all three-time MVPs to stand alone atop the league’s all-time MVP list. Accepting the award, Wilson was quick to credit her teammates and reflect on the obstacles the Aces faced this season. “It hasn’t been easy for us. They counted us out,” Wilson said. “They wrote us all off, but we showed up every single day. It has my name on it, but it’s all of us. There is no [award] without each and every last one of you guys.” Wilson also opened up about her personal journey, reflecting on how far she’s come since her early days on the court. “I was a young girl that didn’t even like the sport. I didn’t want to play; I don’t like to sweat, but now my name’s in the history books forever,” she said. “These are the moments that I’m like, ‘No, this is why you wake up every morning and do what you do.' ”Despite coming off a previous unanimous MVP season, Wilson admitted the lack of early recognition this year left her feeling overlooked. But she used it as fuel. “This [MVP] was just different as a whole because my name wasn’t in conversations even coming off of a unanimous season. It was kind of like, ‘All right, cool,’ and that’s mind blowing to me, and it seeped in a little bit into my mindset.
