Lamar Odom Won't Face Cocaine Possession Charges

Lamar Odom may escape cocaine possession charges because he's in such rough shape.

The Nye County District Attorney's Office, which had been weighing illegal drug use charges against the former NBA player after he was found unconscious from a bender at the Love Ranch Vegas last month, is softening its stance, TMZ reports.

The D.A. will reportedly take into account Odom's mental state and medical status in its decision. The ailing former hoops star, who remains hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, may not even be competent to stand trial in his current condition, the site reports.

Nevada cops asked the D.A. to consider criminal charges against the 36-year-old Odom earlier this month, with a recommended charge of "use of, or under the influence of, a controlled substance," Nye District Attorney Angela A. Bello told the Daily News in a statement Nov. 16.

"The D.A.'s office will take the time needed to appropriately review that request, along with all evidence that might support that request, in order to reach a just conclusion regarding whether to advance charges," she said.

Investigators obtained a search warrant to test Odom's blood after prostitutes who found him at the brothel Oct. 13 said they'd heard him snorting something inside a bathroom, a search warrant affidavit obtained by The News said.

"They indicated that they heard him snorting," Sheriff's Detective Michael Eisenloffel said in his sworn testimony seeking the warrant. "They indicated that they had vague knowledge of him using illicit narcotics."

TMZ first reported that Odom's blood came back dirty with cocaine.

Odom has a brain injury so severehe's unable to recognize some longtime friends and family, can barely speak more than a few words, and at times seems "empty," the site reported earlier this month.

He's also unaware of the near-fatal booze and drug binge that landed him in the hospital, according to his estranged wife, reality star Khloe Kardashian.

"We tell him he had a brain injury, (but) I can't tell him how that brain injury was caused, because it will set him back," she told Ellen DeGeneres recently. "He's never asked why he's here."

The socialite, who called off her and Odom’s divorce proceedings last month to help him make medical decisions, wrote in a blog post Thursday that she would be having a “hospital Thanksgiving” this year.
