Kid Cudi Buys $7.7 Million Mansion

Better known as two-time Grammy winning rapper, songwriter, record producer and budding film and television actor Kid Cudi 37-year-old Scott Mescudi has parlayed his ongoing mainstream showbiz success into the $7.7 million purchase of an 11.5-acre estate in a small and prestigious if little heralded gated enclave in Calabasas, Calif., the increasingly popular and ever-more affluent suburb at the sun-scorched western edge of L.A.’s sprawling San Fernando Valley.

Having sold about 22 million records in the U.S., worked with myriad A-list recording artists including Kanye West, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dogg, and collaborated with cult-favorite apparel labels such as BAPE and fashion innovators such as Virgil Abloh, Cudi has in recent years popped up as an actor in the smash hit sci-fi series “Westworld” and the coming-of-age miniseries "We Are Who Are" Earlier this year he appeared on the silver screen in the crime thriller “Crisis,” and he’s set to co-star in the upcoming horror flick “X”.

On paper, Cudi’s new and nearly 9,000-square-foot generically Mediterranean mansion, with its half a dozen bedrooms and eight bathrooms, has many of the exact same features as hundreds and even thousands of similarly sized suburban mansions built over the last two or three decades all across Calabasas, the San Fernando Valley and beyond: The double height foyer was designed to impress guests with twin curved staircases embellished with wrought-iron railings, the spacious formal living room sports a fireplace and a wet bar, and French doors open the separate formal dining room to the estate’s backyard.

A gated drive swoops up to a parking-lot-sized motor court with garaging for four cars. Some of the other amenities ubiquitous to other mansions in the area include buff-colored travertine floor tiles, a quarry’s worth of white marble in the kitchen and bathrooms, and a showy, climate-controlled wine cellar behind a floor-to-ceiling sheet of glass in the family room.

Huge and chef accommodating with up-to-date appliances and two islands with white marble counters that waterfall off the ends, the kitchen is open to a breakfast area and family room with a flat-screen TV hung above the fireplace. Several sets of French doors allow an easy transition to the backyard.

A small fitness room with an attached bath is easily converted to a staff or guest suite, and the spacious home theater is equipped with a ceiling-mounted projection system and raised platform seating.
