Jennifer Hudson is going to turn the Great White Way purple.
The Oscar- and Grammy-winning belter will make her Broadway debut in the fall in “The Color Purple.” Hudson will play the take-charge Shug Avery, a woman who befriends the show’s main character Celie, who’s casting hasn’t been announced.
The new production, seen at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London, will be directed by John Doyle. Scott Sanders, Oprah Winfrey and Roy Furman, who produced the first of the show that ended its run only seven years ago.
A theater and additional casting will be announced.
