Do not question the mighty Hova.
Jay-Z took to the mike Thursday to release a blistering rap, titled “Open Letter,” in which he fires back at those conservative politicians who questioned the legality of his trip with Beyonce to Cuba this week. The over-the-top piece also beats back those who took umbrage at him for selling off his share of the Nets on Wednesday.
To boot, the 2 minute and 41 second piece humorously alludes to Jay’s relationship with Barack Obama, whom he quotes as saying to him “you gonna get me impeached.”
“They wanna give me jail time and a fine - Fine, let me commit a real crime,” Jay raps at those who dissed his Cuba jaunt. “Politicians never did sh-t for me/except lie to me, distort history,” the rapper spews, before boasting that he “done turned Havana into Atlanta.”
The rapper took the jaunt with wife Beyonce, and both of their mothers, to celebrate the power couple’s fifth wedding anniversary. The U.S. Treasury announced this week that it did grant the couple permission for the trip.
In the track, Jay underscores his warm relationship with the President by rapping “Obama said ‘chill, you gonna get me impeached/You don’t need this sh-t anyway/Chill with me on the beach.”
But White House spokesman Jay Carney denied on Thursday that Obama personally approved the Cuban vacation.
"I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury," Carney quipped when asked about the rap during the daily press briefing.
“The White House from the President on down had nothing to do with anybody’s personal – anybody’s travel to Cuba," he added. "That is something that Treasury handles.”
