Jay Z might have 99 problems, but this kid ain’t one.
A 12-year-old aspiring rapper from Maryland has become a YouTube sensation after he jumped on stage with Hova in Greensboro, N.C., Sunday and expertly belted out the lines of the hit single “Clique” to wild applause.
The tween, who gave his name as Justin, reportedly caught Jay Z’s eye with an audience sign that read, “Can I rap for you?”
“Step up to the big stage big man, you made it,” Jay Z said as Justin climbed the stairs into the spotlight and stared out at the audience.
“You got something to say to the people? You do? You don’t need no music?” Jay Z said with visible surprise as he repeated the boy’s off-mic comments for the crowd.
Justin took a few seconds to gather his thoughts and launched into an acapella, radio-friendly version of the single from Jay Z, Kanye West and Big Sean.
Jay Z nodded in approval until Justin got to one particularly mature verse.
“Not the drug dealing part,” the music mogul interrupted. “Okay, go back to the numbers.”
Justin threw his hand up in triumph at the end and hugged his idol.
“After all that, he said, ‘Can I meet you backstage?’” Jay Z revealed as he reclaimed the mic.
“Yes you can, just because of the nerve,” the Brooklyn-bred rapper, 44, told Justin.
“I feel like this is like a gameshow,” he joked. “And for your grand prize you get to meet Jay Z backstage, please step down.”
According to celebrity website TMZ.com, Justin and his mom Angela also attended Jay Z’s concert in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday night but were seated in the eighth row and failed to make an impression.
The mom then scored front row tickets for the Sunday night “Magna Carta Holy Grail” show for one last try before heading home.
Backstage Sunday night, Jay Z talked to the pint-sized rap prodigy for a few minutes without exchanging numbers, TMZ reported.
