Jay Z and Beyoncé made a surprise appearance at Harvey Weinstein‘s pre-Oscars party at the Montage Beverly Hills on Saturday night.
Beyoncé, who’s pregnant with twins, was wearing a glam, body-hugging dark green dress. The hip hop mogul and his “Lemonade” singer wife arrived at the event during a live performance by Cynthia Erivo, Chris Jackson and Corbin Bleu of songs from “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s “In the Heights.”
Miranda, who’s up for an Oscar, had introduced the “In the Heights” routine.
But since Jay Z and Beyoncé arrived in the middle of the medley, quick-witted Weinstein then had the singers stay on stage and perform “the first five minutes” again after they’d already brought down the house once. “The Color Purple” Broadway star Erivo and the others then launched back into their performance again to the delight of the starry crowd that also included “Lion” stars Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman, Kelsey Grammer, Diane Warren, David Foster, Salman Rushdie, Matthew Morrison, Weinstein’s wife Georgina Chapman, Zac Posen, Edgar Ramirez and Starwood Capital’s Barry Sternlicht.
The Weinstein Company is making a film of Miranda’s 2008 hit Broadway musical “In the Heights,” with “Color Purple” theater producer Scott Sanders. Weinstein revealed from the stage on Saturday night that Jay Z will also be a producer on the musical film.
In September, Jay Z and Weinstein signed a first-look movie deal.
The luxe party was to toast “Lion,” which has six Oscar nominations. Weinstein noted he and Kidman have made nine films together.
Nicole Scherzinger and “Lion” composers — Dustin O’Halloran and Volker Bertelmann (a k a Hauschka) also performed at the luxe bash.
