Ja Rule Released From Jail

Ja Rule was released from a New York prison Tuesday after serving two years, TMZ reports.

The rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in 2010 due to an incident that took place in 2007 when cops found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his car. He turned himself in June 2011.

While in prison, Rule was hit with another charge and sentenced to 28 months for tax evasion. He reportedly failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million in earnings from 2004 to 2006.

The 36-year-old Queens, N.Y., native was originally released for completing his gun possession sentence in February but headed straight for federal custody to complete his term for tax evasion, which he was serving concurrently with his first charge.

But Rule is not completely a free man yet. A source told TMZ his wife picked him up around 10 a.m. from Ray Brook Federal Prison and took him directly home where he’ll remain on home confinement until July 28.

The Platinum-selling rapper, who struck fame in the early 2000s, is reportedly eager about returning to work, and previous reports indicate he owes $1.1 million in back taxes.
