Chris Brown’s trip to New York Monday night just wasn’t Met to be.
The 24-year-old R&B singer was intent on making it to the Met Gala in Manhattan but his private jet had other plans.
Several minutes after taking off from a Burbank airport on his way to Teterboro, N.J., Brown’s Gulfstream 3 jet began to fill with smoke, TMZ reports.
“It was a lot of smoke … everywhere,” one source indicated.
The jet’s pilot quickly turned the plane around to conduct an emergency landing back at the airport they took off from.
While the passengers were reportedly scared the pilot remained calm throughout the ordeal.
But Brown wasn’t satisfied with his life potentially being saved. He was insistent on attending the gala and boarded yet another private jet within the same hour from the emergency landing.
The “Don’t Judge Me” singer did make it to Teterboro after all but not in time to attend the gala. Still, he headed into New York City to check in at one of the event’s after-parties.
It could be assumed that Brown’s eagerness to make it to New York was due to Rihanna, 25, being in town for her Diamonds tour. However, the “Don’t Wake Me Up” singer did just confirm their split saying “I can’t be focused on wife-ing someone that young.”
