A Hawaii man who was bit by a 13-foot tiger shark lived to tell the tale of the traumatic attack and posted a video of his deep wounds online moments after he swam to safety.
Braxton Rocha, 27, was spearfishing off the coast of the Big Island on Sunday when he came head-to-head with a massive shark that took a huge chunk out of his left leg, authorities said.
"I just got attacked by a tiger shark," the Kapaau spear fisherman says in the Instagram video as he’s hauled off on a stretcher.
The footage then pans down his body to show the gaping gash in the middle of his leg.
Rocha managed to whip out his phone to capture the aftermath of the terrifying encounter after he swam to safety and alerted his fishing friend who called police, the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources said.
"Love you, brah," a friend can be heard saying. "Love you too, brah," Rocha replies before the short clip ends.
Rocha was flown by helicopter to North Hawaii Hospital, where he underwent surgery for two serious leg injuries, authorities and his family members said.
He’s now in intensive care, his relatives said.
"While we are hopeful that he will recover and will be able to keep his leg, there is no certainty at this time," his family said in a GoFundMe page, which has collected more than $4,000 since Monday.
Beaches weren't closed because the tiger shark attack occurred in an "isolated and remote area," authorities said. The water was murky that day due to heavy rain.
It's the fourth shark attack in Hawaii this year. Only one of those encounters was fatal, The Associated Press reported.
Tiger, bull and white sharks are considered the three most dangerous sharks in the world.
