Family Matters’ Star Darius McCrary Released From Jail While Awaiting Sentencing

Darius McCrary has been released from custody after resolving part of the long-running child support case that led to his arrest earlier this year. According to court documents  the Family Matters actor was released from the Oakland County Jail in Michigan on Monday, December 8, just weeks after being extradited from California. Records further show that McCrary entered a no-contest plea to five felony counts connected to unpaid child support. He is now awaiting sentencing, scheduled for February 9, 2026. McCrary’s public defender, Paulette Loftin, said in a statement shared that the agreement marks the end of a drawn-out legal battle. “Over the last four years, Mr. McCrary’s fight for justice and truth has been painted as an attempt to shirk his responsibilities to his child,” Loftin said. “The resolution reached today makes it clear that family does matter and that it always has. This resolution allows Mr. McCrary to correct the misleading narrative and put this matter behind him.” The 49-year-old actor had spent several weeks in jail following his October 2025 arrest near the U.S.–Mexico border. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents took him into custody on an outstanding felony fugitive warrant issued in Michigan after he missed a prior court appearance in a separate child-support proceeding. McCrary was transported from San Diego to Michigan after a hearing in which he briefly represented himself. Prosecutors alleged at the time that he owed more than $75,000 in unpaid support for his daughter. The warrant was initially tied to a case that had been pending since June 2024, when Michigan officials claimed McCrary failed to appear at a scheduled hearing. His arrest followed months of procedural disputes over court notices, service issues, and claims from his representatives that the actor was unaware of specific court dates. McCrary’s longtime rep, Ann Barlow, previously maintained that he was volunteering with a charity that builds homes near the border when the arrest occurred, calling the entire situation a misunderstanding. McCrary has not yet made a public statement following his release.
