Eminem Questioned By The Secret Service Over Anti-Trump Lyrics

The Secret Service grilled rapper Eminem over lyrics potentially threatening President Donald Trump and first daughter Ivanka Trump — but declined to refer him for prosecution after the interview.

The Detroit rapper, whose birth name is Marshall Mathers, released the album “Kamikaze” in August 2018 that included the track “The Ringer,” which raised eyebrows because Eminem, a fierce Trump critic, claimed he was visited by the Secret Service, BuzzFeed News reported.

“‘Cause Agent Orange just sent the Secret Service / To meet in person to see if I really think of hurtin’ him / Or ask if I’m linked to terrorists / I said, ‘Only when it comes to ink and lyricists,’” he rapped on the track.

The Secret Service wouldn’t comment at the time, but BuzzFeed filed a Freedom of Information Act request to find out if the feds actually interviewed Mathers.

The website reported this week that the agency turned over 40 pages of redacted documents providing details of its investigation. The documents show it was focused on “threatening lyrics” from his rap “Framed” that appeared on “Revival,” an earlier album.

The Secret Service said Eminem was “exhibiting inappropriate behavior” and that he “threatens protectee,” an apparent reference to the Trumps.

The feds were apparently tipped off by an employee of the gossip website TMZ, who was seeking a comment on the lyrics.

The documents said that on Dec. 15, 2017, the day “Revival” was released, “a concerned citizen reported Marshall Mathers the rapper ‘Eminem’ had a new song called ‘Framed’ with an inappropriate comment towards President Donald Trump and a threatening comment towards Ivanka Trump,” BuzzFeed reported.

The Secret Service documents also said that “the song was about a murder that he could not remember and must be ‘framed’ with the specific lyrics: “Donald Duck’s on, there’s a Tonka Truck in the yard / But dog, how the f–k is Ivanka Trump in the trunk of my car? … I feel somewhat responsible for the dumb little blonde / Girl, that motherf–kin ‘ baton twirler that got dumped in the pond / Second murder with no recollection of it.”

The documents also said: “This is not the first time MATHERS made threatening comments towards POTUS and his family. In June 2017, MATHERS freestyled comments that were threatening in nature towards POTUS.”

The documents showed the agency’s Protective Intelligence and Assessment Division conducted a background check on Eminem and arranged an interview with him, which eventually took place on Jan. 16, 2018.

Two pages of documents summarizing that interview were redacted but showed that it focused on Eminem’s BET freestyle rap and the lyrics in “Framed.”

During the interview with Secret Service, when agents began to read the lyrics of his freestyle rap, “Mathers was familiar the song and began rap along with the interviewers as the verse was read,” the website said.

The Secret Service discussed the interview “and it was determined that this case will be NON-REFERRED” to a federal prosecutor.
