Doug E. Fresh Denies Filing Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit Against ‘Empire’

It seems that Empire can’t escape multiple lawsuits, the latest of which reprotedly came courtesy of Doug E. Fresh. The hip-hop pioneer was believed to have filed a multi-million dollar suit against the Fox drama for illegally sampling his 1993 classic, “I-ight,” as reported by All Hip Hop.

According to the site, Fresh, birth name Douglas E. Davis, along with Wonder Boy Entertainment CEO, Rasheed Rahan Wonder, and songwriter Unique Mecca (who is currently incarcerated), joined forces to seek legal action against Empire.

The trio allegedly contended that Empire didn’t have permission to sample the track for “No Doubt About It,” a song performed by Pitbull and Jussie Smollett during season two. The song also appeared on the Empire soundtrack.

However, Fresh says the report is untrue:

Although Timbaland was the show’s music director at the time, Ne-Yo and Jesse “Corparal” Wilson are listed as writers and producers on “No Doubt About It.”
