DMX Is In A ‘Vegetative State’ After Overdose

DMX’s family is asking for prayers as the famed rapper is in a “vegetative state” following a drug overdose and heart attack last week.

“We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges,” the family of the rapper (born Earl Simmons) wrote in a statement to People.

Bikers sporting gear from his “Ruff Ryders” collective have gathered around White Plains Hospital in Westchester, where the 50-year-old “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” rapper remains on life support, and plan to hold a prayer vigil Monday.

DMX is currently in a “vegetative state,” his manager, Nakia Walker, told the New York Times on Sunday.

“We’re just praying,” Walker said, noting that some of his family members have been allowed to visit the Yonkers native in the hospital.

Additionally, Walker told BuzzFeed News that the “What’s My Name” performer is “still in the same condition — in a vegetative state, [with] lung and brain failure and no brain activity.”

DMX’s lawyer, Murray Richman, further told the New York Times that the rapper had lived a “difficult life” and used music as an outlet.

“He expressed the pain and suffering in a very unique way,” Richman said. “He truly is reflective of a whole segment of our society whose pain and suffering go unrecorded.”

Richman added, “He is truly an amazing person. He walked into a room, he lit up the room. He couldn’t help making you feel good in his presence.”

The grave news about the “Where the Hood At” rapper sparked an outpouring across social media, where celebrities asked for prayers for him.
