Chicago Rapper Chief Keef Organizes Secret Concert After Mayor Bans Him

Chicago rapper Chief Keef has waged war against Mayor Rahm Emanuel, vowing to perform a Saturday show the city fought to block.

The rapper announced that he would perform via hologram at a secret location, just days after the original venue nixed the concert at the city’s request.

Keef’s music “promotes violence” and poses “a significant public safety risk,” Emanuel’s office said Saturday. The rapper couldn’t even attend the show in person, instead opting to perform via hologram, because of outstanding warrants for his arrest.

But Keef insists his show will go on.

The rapper posted a video to his Instagram account announcing that the Saturday concert canceled by the Redmoon Theater will relocate to a secret location.

“Banned by the Mayor of Chicago,” a voice read over video of Keef performing. “Chief Keef, from a secret Chicago location, live via hologram, collecting for charity. Stop the violence now.”

Keef, whose real name is Keith Cozart, organized the original concert to benefit the family of a 13-month-old boy who was hit and killed by murder suspects fleeing the scene after gunning down Chicago rapper Capo.

Capo — a member of Chief Keef’s Glo Gang — was killed in a drive-by on the city’s South Side. The car’s driver, 21-year-old Antoine Watkins, struck little Dillan Harris as he sped away, police said.

Watkins has been charged in Dillan’s death, but not Capo’s.

Keef’s benefit show at the Redmoon Theater was also meant to be a tribute to his fallen friend, but the mayor’s office asked the theater to pull the plug on the show.

“The mayor's administration called Redmoon and informed them that the show by Mr. Cozart, whose music promotes violence, posed a significant public safety risk,” Emanuel spokeswoman Kelley Quinn told the Chicago Tribune. A local pastor also pressured the venue into nixing the show, organizers said.

The new secret show will feature Keef via hologram, just as the original concert had been planned.

The 19-year-old rapper is wanted in Cook County for nonpayment of child support. The warrant is only valid in Illinois.
