Bobby Brown is once again seeking help for addiction, sources close to the “My Prerogative” singer tell Confidenti@l. This news comes two days after we exclusively revealed that Brown, 47, is going to be a dad for the seventh time.
“Bob is in rehab,” according to a Brown confidant who believed the singer was seeking help in California for cocaine and alcohol problems. An attorney for Brown denied that the singer is being treated for alcohol and cocaine use in California, but declined to answer when asked point-blank if Brown was being treated for substance abuse, saying only that the singer would perform in Charleston, S.C., on March 4.
The performer has admitted to past struggles with booze, heroin and cocaine — the latter of which he has claimed to have been introduced to by his late ex-wife, singer Whitney Houston.
Houston, 48, was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room in 2012. A coroner’s report found that she had cocaine in her system.
Just three months after Houston’s death, Brown told NBC’s “Today” show that he’d been clean for seven years when Houston died. But by August 2012, he was in treatment for substance abuse again. Then, six months after that, Brown was charged with driving under the influence and sentenced to an 18-month rehabilitation program to try and shake his demons.
Brown announced last fall that he’s working on another tell-all, which he says is a therapeutic outlet after the loss of his 22-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown last July. Bobbi was also said to have struggled with substance abuse issues, and, like her mother, was found unresponsive in a bathtub, in January 2015.
A former roommate of Bobbi swore in a deposition obtained by Us Weekly magazine that she “smoked marijuana, she probably smoked crack often, and also did heroin.”
Brown’s wife, Alicia Etheredge, confirmed via email that she represents him, but didn’t respond to a request for comment regarding whether her husband is again in treatment. Etheredge is due to give birth to her third child with Brown this summer.
We’re told that it was at her insistence that Brown sought help.
Brown’s last album, “The Masterpiece,” was released in 2012, shortly before he checked into his court ordered rehab.
It contained such ominously named tunes as “Don’t Let Me Die,” “Doesn’t Anybody Know,” “Damaged,” “Can’t Give Up,” “Set Me Free,” “Exit Wounds” and “The Man I Want to Be.”
