‘Black Panther’ Star Chadwick Boseman’s Apparent ‘Dramatic Weight Loss’ Worries Fans

Chadwick Boseman’s fans are a bit worried.

When the “Black Panther” star took to Instagram Wednesday to promote the Jackie Robinson-inspired Operation 42 amid coronavirus, his message took a back seat for many fans concerned about the actor’s marked weight loss.

“Our wakanda king needs a meal," wrote one concerned user while another commented, “Are we not supposed to notice your weight loss?”

“This must be for a role,” one pointed out, asking, “How are you losing weight during a pandemic? I’m eating everything in sight.”

One fan said that despite Boseman’s “impactful” words about coronavirus’ impact on the African-American community, his “dramatic weight loss is taking precedence because it is not what we are used to.

“If you would have addressed it in the beginning it would have made your words shine more,” she continued.

Other commenters though, pointed out that Boseman “doesn’t owe any of us” an explanation about the source of his weight loss, particularly given how “appalling” some of the remarks were.

Boseman’s post announced Operation 42, a partnership between “42” producer Thomas Tull and medical apparel manufacturer FIGS, to donate $4.2 million “in personal protective equipment in honor of Jackie Robinson Day" and help hospitals serving African-American communities.

Boseman worked with Tull on the 2013 Robinson biopic, in which the “Get on Up” actor starred as the legendary baseball icon.

“This time that we’re in, this pandemic, I can’t think of a better way to commemorate everything that he was about,” Boseman said in Wednesday’s video, pointing to hospitals’ well-known shortages of PPE.

“The statistics for COVID-19 have shown that the African-American community has been hit the hardest, the Latino community has been hit the hardest,” he explained. “And that’s partially because we’re the front line workers. We’re the ones still going to work, we’re the ones still driving the buses. In the hospitals and in the medical field, we’re the EMTs, we’re the ones who are going to battle every day.”

Thanking those on the front lines isn’t enough, he said, “Let’s get them what they need.”
