BET Announces Bobby Brown And Death Row Records Biopics

Bobby Brown and Death Row Records will be the subjects of upcoming television shows planned for BET, Variety reports. The network announced the two projects on Thursday.

The Bobby Brown Story miniseries will be written by Abdul Williams and executive produced by Jesse Collins. The pair was behind the network's three-part miniseries hit, The New Edition Story. Bobby Brown will chronicle the artist's rise, from New Edition to his solo career. Each episode of the two-part miniseries will be two hours long.

The six-part documentary series Death Row Chronicles is described as "part true-crime murder mystery and part hip-hop drama, this compelling docu-series will comb through mountains of misinformation, uncovering key evidence and witnesses who will reveal the truth about the bitter rivalries surrounding its legends," according to Deadline. Each episode will be an hour long.

The legendary label renowned for their artists, including Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur and label cofounder Dr. Dre also gained notoriety from cofounder and CEO Suge Knight. The documentary will celebrate the groundbreaking music produced while offering "an unflinching look at the label and its legacy."

Beyond BET's look at Death Row Records, other creative works related to the label will soon be released. The Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me opens on June 16th. HBO's The Defiant Ones, about Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine and their relationship, which began with Death Row Records, is also slated to air this year.
