Barack Obama Congratulate Chance The Rapper At Free Chicago Show

How’s this for a blessing?

Chance the Rapper’s surprise free concert in Chicago Saturday night featured a cameo from a very special guest: Barack Obama.

In a pre-recorded video message, the former commander-in-chief congratulated fellow Chicagoan Chance for serving as the Grand Marshal of the city’s 88th-annual Bud Billiken Parade, which is the largest and oldest African-American parade in the U.S.

"We want to make sure our kids are safe, we want to make sure that they are ready to go back to school,” Obama said.

“We want to make sure that we are nurturing and protecting and encouraging and loving the next generation of leaders all throughout the city of Chicago. So Chance, I'm grateful for everything that you've done on behalf of the young people back home."

Earlier in the day, Chance the Rapper's SocialWorks charity distributed 30,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to Chicago children.

In March, Chance met with Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner to discuss increasing budget cuts to Chicago Public Schools.

Frustrated with the outcome of that conversation, Chance decided to address the issue himself by donating $1 million to the school system.

“This isn’t about politics. This isn’t about posturing. This about taking care of the kids,” Chance said.
