IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

A British house cat has roared her way into the Guinness World Records by having the loudest purr on earth.

Smokey made the cut with a deafening 67.7 decibel purr - close to the volume generated by a lawn mower.

But the 12-year-old, gray-and-white tabby sounds more like a cooing dove.

Her owners say she is rarely quiet - only going silent while she sleeps.

"She even manages to purr while she eats," her owner Ruth Adams wrote on a Website dedicated to the vociferous feline, www.smokeythepurringcat.com.

Smokey first came to attention in February when she won a local competition for most powerful purr. A local community college then submitted the results to Guinness.

The record keepers say the loudest animals on earth are blue whales, which emit a low-frequency pulse that reaches 188 decibels.

THIS CAT COULDN'T BE MINES! NO F**KING WAY! I'M WITH THE 7 OTHER MOFO'S THAT KICKED THAT CAT OUT!
