IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

Apple aficionados anxiously awaiting the company's upcoming Internet data-storage service were able to get a sneak peak at its iCloud on Tuesday - but only if they were registered app developers.
The rest of us had to settle for news of iCloud's new pricing options that Apple posted on its official site.

The company on late Monday quietly launched the iCloud website as part of a beta, or prelaunch, test that gave developers a taste of what's to come when the service officially debuts in the fall.

Which is pretty much what can be currently found on MobilMe, Apple's subscription-based storage system that will be obsolete next year as users head to the iCloud, which not only stores your data on the Internet but also automatically syncs it between such Apple devices as iPhones and iPads or Mac desktop and laptop computers.

People at tech websites, such as 9to5mac.com, who were able to log onto iCloud.com yesterday posted screenshots showing several familiar Apple features and apps - including Mail, Contacts, Calendar and Find My iPhone locator- in new, Web-based versions. The glimpse into the cloud also revealed a new app for viewing iWork documents.

While up to 5GB of storage will be free, Apple revealed a price structure for those needing more space to store their photos, videos, emails and documents on the Internet. Users can buy an additional 10GB of space for $20 per year, 20GB for $40, or 50GB for $100.
