NEW YORK — Police say an armed robber who fatally shot a Madison Avenue jewelry store worker made off with nearly $1 million worth of sapphires, diamonds, emeralds and other jewels.
A sketch has been released of the suspect, who fired once and killed 71-year-old Henry Menahem in the brazen robbery Wednesday. The gunman remains on the loose. Police also recovered a box on Thursday with a Faberge-style egg, though not one of the original famous eggs.
Menahem was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead after the robbery at R.S. Durant.
