A New York City police officer has been arrested on charges of cocaine distribution, extortion and illegal use a firearm.
Officer Juan Acosta was scheduled to appear in federal court in Manhattan on Friday.
Prosecutors accuse Acosta and another man of conspiring to distribute cocaine throughout New York City over the last four years.
They say Acosta also used his position as an officer to rob a drug courier of thousands of dollars in 2005.
Prosecutors say Acosta was caught in a sting in November when he took a $15,000 payment from a government witness to transport 10 kilograms of cocaine to the Bronx.
Attorney information for Acosta wasn't immediately on record.
The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association said he has resigned.
