A$AP Rocky ought to pipe down ASAP.
The rapper is under fire after controversial comments he made during an interview on hip-hop radio show “The Breakfast Club” when asked about his public silence on the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I hate when the bandwagon stuff starts,” the 27-year-old said Wednesday.
“How come black lives only matter when a police officer takes it? It should matter when a black life takes it. It should always matter. All lives matter.”
Not content with the level of controversy, the rapper went on to bring up his feelings on disgraced comedian, Bill Cosby — who he believes is innocent.
“He did so much positive things leading up to one thing, which he was convicted of being innocent for, by the way,” he said.
“People don’t even speak about that, you get what I’m saying? All you remember is the 56 women and all that kind of s--t.”
“That’s a lot of women,” one of the radio show hosts, Charlamagne Tha God, fired back,
“Yeah, but he’s a powerful man, you know what I’m saying? Look, I’m not his lawyer, but I do know he’s innocent. In the eyes of the law, they said he’s innocent,” A$AP continued.
“All we know is that he was accused, he allegedly raped, however many (women) he raped, which, you got, it’s so much issues in the world, you know I’m saying?”
In May, a judge ordered Cosby go to trial on charges he sexually assaulted former director of the Temple University women's basketball program, Andrea Constand, at his suburban Philadelphia mansion in 2004.
Constand is one of more than 50 women to accuse the 78-year-old of sexual assault.
This is not the first time A$AP, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, has received criticism for unenlightened comments and taking a backseat on the fight against systemic racism.
In 2015, the Harlem-native said he didn’t want to join the national conversation about Ferguson as he “wasn’t there” and his job didn’t require it.
“So every time something happens because I'm black I gotta stand up? What the f--k am I, Al Sharpton now? I'm A$AP Rocky. I did not sign up to be no political activist,” he told Time Out.
“I don't wanna talk about no f-----g Ferguson and s--t because I don't live over there! I live in f-----g Soho and Beverly Hills. I can't relate. I'm in the studio; I'm in these fashion studios; I'm in these b-----s' drawers. I'm not doing anything outside of that. That's my life,” he said.
Twitter users were quick to call out the rapper on his tone-deaf remarks:
The “All Lives Matter” campaign has been widely condemned for misinterpreting the ideology behind Black Lives Matter — and for suggesting African-Americans in the U.S. are not disproportionately affected by police brutality.
He ain't been the same since he put that dress on …..
