A$AP Mob co-founder A$AP Bari has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman at a London hotel two summers ago.
The fashion designer, whose real name is Jabari Shelton, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault during a court appearance in the British capital on Thursday morning, reports ITV.
“The court does have concerns in this matter because it has exposed a very unpleasant attitude by you towards women,” Judge Zoe Smith told the 27-year-old, before adding: “You say that you were angry but there is no need to ever be so abusive and humiliating to a female.”
Shortly after the July 2017 incident at the Curtain Hotel in the city’s Shoreditch district, a video started circulating online in which Bari can be seen physically and verbally assaulting the woman.
Despite the footage, Bari, who was arrested last May, initially denied the charges and filed a lawsuit against the woman.
As a result of his plea, Bari will pay a $5,000 fine and $3,150 in compensation to the woman in order to avoid jail time.
In September, Kanye West provided his unprompted support of Bari in a since-deleted Instagram post, writing (via Consequence of Sound), “Bari challenged me when no one else did and when he got in trouble I was scared to say he was my friend just like I did with xxx and that was some p—y shit on my part. I let the perception and the robots control me. That’s the true sunken place.”
The plea doesn’t mean Bari’s legal troubles are over, though. In late November, he was arrested on federal drug charges in Pennsylvania.
